SAVOIR VIVRE À CHARLOTTENBURG AVEC DES GRANDS VINS DE BORDEAUX

The French are famous for their ‘savoir vivre,’ a sensibility which has swung back into style of late. And French fare is again in vogue — the bistro, anyways, if not old-school haute cuisine as satirized in the classic film “The Wing or the Thigh.” In this spirit, Grit and Claude Trendel founded Gourmanderie, a club dedicated to gourmet culture and promoting the Gallic approach to life. That same name graces the club’s restaurant, which includes a small delicatessen and wine shop. The pair also operates an event location (“Club Culinaire”) on Otto-Suhr-Allee.

The dates for our festival were not chosen entirely at random. We were very much aware that February also happens to be the season for delicious Périgord truffles. Seizing on the chance, the Trendels have dedicated an evening solely to this theme. You’ll enjoy 5 courses, all prepared with Périgord truffles. Yes, the dessert too. You’ll also have the chance to listen to THE Berlin truffle merchant, Massimo Ferradino, talk about truffles, especially the fast and loose ways in which this fabulous buried treasure is misused. Because there are virtually no other luxury products as ripe for fraud as truffles. Whether it’s industrial truffle oil, truffle butter or truffle cheese: the abuses are unreal. Buying truffles is a matter of trust, and in all of Germany there are just a handful of dealers worthy of your confidence. Massimo is one of them. His store, “tartufo del re,” is located on Solmsstraße in Kreuzberg.

We’ll also be welcoming the owner of the Bordeaux wine estate “Maison Riviere” to our Berlin soirée. Jean Baptiste Borie, a member of the Riviere family by marriage, will be arriving from France to present his estate’s wonderful Graves and Saint Emilion wines. There are rumors that he might even be packing a lovely Sauternes for dessert…
