Promoting the culture of enjoyment Berlin has undergone lasting change, and many people have taken and continue to take part in it. This prize was created for them. Previous award winners include Sonja Moor, Karl Wannemacher, Michael Hoffmann, Guido Wegner, Gesumino Pireddu, Bernd Matthies and Alexander Dressel. In 2020, the caterers Anja and Carsten Schmidt were honored.

2021

This award honors individuals who have made a special contribution to Berlin’s rapid culinary development. This year, we honored Herbert Beltle for his outstanding qualities as a trainer. In 1988, Herbert Beltle went into business by himself with the “Alter Zollhaus”.  In 1999, the “Aigner” at the Gendarmenmarkt was added, and in 2007 the “Rotisserie Weingrün” at the Gertraudenbrücke. To date, some 200 apprentices have passed through his school, from which sprang Marco Müller, Björn Swanson and Stephan Garkisch, among others, people who today shape Berlin’s culinary scene in a special way.

The laudatory was the IHK managing director Jan Eder.

2020

The award went to restaurateurs Anja and Carsten Schmidt, who have been at the forefront of gastronomy in Berlin for many years, not only with their Schmidt wine stores and the Rutz restaurant. Schmidt Z&KO, which they run together with Ralf Zacherl and Mario Kotaska, has become an indispensable part of Schöneberg. The most recent concept, the Altes Zollhaus, was taken over by the two with Marco Müller from Herbert Beltle. One day after this award, Marco Müller received his third star from the Guide Michelin and thus made history in Berlin: The first three-star restaurant in the capital, and with deliberately regional, creative cuisine.

The laudatory was Bernhard Moser, the festival director of eat! berlin.

2019

Alexander Dressel, star chef and director of the Hotel Bayrisches Haus in Potsdam, was president of the JRE (Jeunes Restaurateur d’Europe) for eight years and brought new momentum to the chefs’ network. He was particularly committed to promoting young talent.

Patricia Bröhm, editor-in-chief of the restaurant guide Gault&Millau, was the laudatory.

2018

Bernd Matthies, journalist and restaurant critic for the Tagesspiegel for 35 years, with laudatory Felicitas Then, TV chef, YouTuber and winner of the Audience Award 2017.

2017

Gesumino Pireddu, master carver and excellent host.

The laudatory was Bernhard Moser, the festival director of eat! berlin.

2016

Guido Wegner

The department head of the GründerCenter Berlin has always been committed to and supported restaurateurs and young entrepreneurs.

2014

Michael Hoffmann, formally Restaurant Margaux

Completely surprised and delighted here with laudatory Marion Kracht.

2013

Ingrid and Karl Wannemacher, Restaurant Alt Luxemburg

2011

Sonja Moor

The eat! berlin award for “Promoter of Gourmet Culture 2011” goes to Sonja Moor, who runs a farm with water buffalo and Galloway cattle in Brandenburg with her husband Max Moor. There is hardly any other farm in the region where ecological sustainability and species-appropriate husbandry are practiced with such passion and consistency.
